Why Take an American Red Cross Health and Safety Course?

- Annette McDonald, Instructor Trainer and Educator for the Douglas County Chapter, began her volunteer career with the American Red Cross as a lifeguard when she was only 16 years old. Strongly committed to our organization ever since, Annette has served in a variety of capacities including Board Member, Instructor Trainer, and Service Delivery Chair. Hundreds of individuals in Douglas County have been the beneficiary of her passionate teaching instruction in the areas of water safety, lifeguarding, CPR, first aid, and countless other courses.
- The American Red Cross has provided health and safety services to people for more than 85 years as part of the organization's mission of emergency prevention and preparedness.
- The Red Cross is the recognized premier provider of First Aid, CPR, lifeguarding, water safety, and other health and safety programs.
- Red Cross programs are developed in collaboration with experts from the fields of medicine, aquatics, and sports and reflect up-to-date information and techniques.
- Red Cross courses are designed to teach the exact skills people need to know in an emergency.
- Red Cross health and safety certificates are recognized nation-wide and accepted by many national institutions.

Making our communities safer is an integral part of our mission. Locally, the Douglas County Chapter served over 2,400 individuals in some form of CPT, first aid or AED training. Additionally, more than 2,700 people completed swimming or lifeguard training in the county. As a pacesetter in the field of health and safety education, we keep pace with our National Organization by offering continuing education to our staff and volunteer instructors, keeping them up-to-date in the latest lifesaving techniques and technology.

Policies and Procedures
- All classes require pre-registration.
- Prepayment at least five business days before scheduled class is required to secure a spot in the class.
- Class participants should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for practice sessions, many of which are on the floor.
- Certificates needing to be replaced are subject to a $3.00 administrative fee, due before issuance. Please provide as much information as possible when requesting a replacement card (instructor's name, class completion date, etc.)
Refund Policy
- The Red Cross may cancel a course if less than six (6) participants are enrolled. Participants will be notified at least 24 hours in advance if the course must be canceled.
- No refund will be given or course rescheduled if participant does not pass the course or if the participant fails to show up for the course without first notifying the office.
- Individuals must give the Red Cross 48 hours advance notice of cancellations or enrollment changes. If participant calls and cancels and does not reschedule, a $5.00 administrative fee will be deducted from the course fee.
